Hello everyone, I’m Laila Boubeker, a PhD student in Frank’s team. I began my academic journey with a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences at the University of Picardie Jules Verne, where I specialized in Human Biology and Health Physiology. During my studies, I explored various complementary subjects, including developmental and aging biology, biomedical diagnostic instrumentation, methods for exploring human physiology in second year, and pharmacology and neuropharmacology in third year.

I continued with a Master’s degree in Health Biology, specializing in Cell Biology, Physiology and Pathology at the University of Bordeaux. There, I had the opportunity to focus on skeletal muscle research during two internships at Centre de Recherche Cardio-Thoracique de Bordeaux (CRCTB), where I worked developing models to better understand muscle physiopathology

I joined the team through the doctorate school’s competitive selection process, after applying for a project co-supervised by Qiyan Mao and Frank Schnorrer. My PhD project aims to investigate how biomechanical forces and feedback mechanisms regulate sarcomere assembly and growth in self-organizing human skeletal muscle organoids.  As part of the small subgroup within Frank’s lab working on iPSC-derived muscle cells, I’m excited to contribute to advancing our understanding of human muscle development.
